Work from The Horse and I.
“My work is a metamorphosis of memories and emotions. It is like a poem and tries to use poetic imagery to visualize a feeling of lightness. Creatures between dream and reality are presented. I have tried to create a state of intoxication, of adventure, curiosity, something of a fictional reality show. My work does not change between self and world, private and public, what is inner and what is outer. The trail leads outside but only after having gone deeply into the interior.” from Marina Weigl’s Introduction “Marina Weigl’s work, like any serious artist’s, sets itself apart from all other moments and captures the particularity of its subject—a face, a feather, an animal, a landscape, a tree, a skull—and in doing so, she reveals its universality. The photograph that captures the particularity of its subject stops us because it lies outside the daily barrage of trite and general images we are bombarded with. It holds us because it is like no other moment. It makes us return to it because it has seized its subject as it has never before been seized. That is what the photographs of Maria Weigl do—seize their subjects in fresh yet universal ways.” – from John Wood’s afterword
