Work from TEXT2IMAGE
“TEXT2IMAGE is an online tool by Ted Davis that does exactly what the name describes, but in a different way than one might expect. Rather than creating a typographic based image of the text submitted, TEXT2IMAGE renders an abstract image that is the translation of the given input. The results remain consistent for any particular entry, however will vary greatly through textual change. Within the realms of data visualization + digital/glitch aesthetics, TEXT2IMAGE explores an alternative way to create images and analyze texts.
TEXT2IMAGE was created as part of a masters thesis in visual communication at UIC/HGK Basel, titled, Precise Mishandling of the Digital Image Structure. The notion that all of our digital media is speaking the same language [text is image is video is audio is ______] rang true when I discovered the ability to inject textual content into the commonly used jpeg format. TEXT2IMAGE exploits this discovery while exploring what it means to use our digital media in an unconventional way.” – Ted Davis
